Executive Leadership Team

  • Alex Sun

    Alex Sun
    President and CEO

    Alex Sun joined Mitchell International, Inc. in 2001 and currently serves as the Company's President and Chief Executive Officer, guiding the Company's strategy and day-to-day operations. Prior to this appointment, Alex served as President and Chief Financial Officer until 2008. With a vision for serving the broader claims technology needs for the Property and Casualty claims and collision repair industries, Alex has led the company's expansion to achieve unparalleled breadth of technology, connectivity, and information service offerings.

    Prior to joining Mitchell, Alex served as the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance and Administration for an enterprise software company (now part of The SAS Institute), with oversight of worldwide finance, legal, human resources, information systems, and facilities. Alex also spent approximately ten years with Merrill Lynch & Co., finally serving as Vice President in the Investment Banking Division, where he was responsible for providing corporate finance and strategic advisory services to financial services companies.

    Alex currently serves on the Board of Directors of Mitchell International as well as the Board of Trustees of The Gillispie School and is a member of The Young Presidents' Organization. Alex is a graduate of The University of Chicago.

    Dave Torrence

    Dave Torrence
    Executive Vice President and General Manager
    of Auto Casualty Solutions

    Dave Torrence joined Mitchell International in April 2005, bringing a wealth of experience in the auto physical damage insurance and casualty claims markets. In his current role, Dave provides leadership to Mitchell International's Auto Casualty Solutions division and has helped lead it through an extended period of phenomenal growth.

    Prior to joining Mitchell, Dave served in a variety of operational roles in the insurance industry, including Assistant Vice President of Product Development and later as Assistant Vice President of Claims at the Auto Club Group (AAA affiliate). In this role, he provided executive leadership to ACG's casualty claim operations and legal department. Dave has an MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Missouri.

    Nina Smith-Garmon

    Nina Smith-Garmon
    Executive Vice President and General Manager
    of Workers' Compensation Solutions

    Nina Smith-Garmon is executive vice president and general manager of Mitchell Workers' Compensation Solutions group. In this position, Nina oversees an organization dedicated to bringing process improvement, greater efficiencies, and lower costs to SmartAdvisor customers while pioneering new standards and benchmarks in the workers' compensation industry. As a passionate, customer-centric business executive, Nina brings to Mitchell over 25 years of focused leadership in bringing client satisfaction and operational excellence to the technology sector.

    Prior to joining Mitchell, Nina served as a Division President of Sage Software North America, a leader in business management solutions. Nina also served in multiple roles at Xerox Corporation where she rose from Product Marketing Manager to Vice President/General Manager, ultimately serving as Chief Marketing Officer. Nina holds a Bachelor of Arts, Management, from the University of Redlands.

    Jesse Herrera

    Executive Vice President and General Manager
    of Auto Physical Damage

    Jesse Herrera joined Mitchell in 2002 as an internal consultant and has since held a series of leadership positions of increasing responsibility.  Prior to his current role leading our Auto Physical Damage Division, Jesse spent over 6 years as Senior Vice President, Product & Customer Experience.  In this role, Jesse and his team redefined the APD product suite by implementing the RepairCenter & WorkCenter product platform strategy. 

    Before joining Mitchell, Jesse worked as a strategy consultant with Bain & Company and spent the early part of his career with GE Capital working in Product Management, Marketing and Operations as part of their Management Development Program.  Jesse holds a B.S. from the University of Minnesota and an M.B.A from Harvard Business School.

    Erez Nir

    Erez Nir
    Chief Technology Officer

    Erez Nir is the Chief Technology Officer of Mitchell International. In his role Erez oversees corporate IT functions (engineering, operations, business systems, and support services) as well as Enterprise Architecture, Enterprise Reporting, and IT Enterprise Services across Mitchell's three primary business units—Auto Physical Damage, Auto Casualty Solutions and Workers' Compensation Solutions.

    Erez previously served as Mitchell's Senior Vice President of Technology. In this role he defined Mitchell's technology vision and underlying roadmap to meet the challenges of the company's customers and its business partners.

    Before joining Mitchell, Erez served as Vice President of Product Management and Marketing of Mobilitec Inc., and Vice President of Information Engineering for San Diego-based Wingcast, a Ford and Qualcomm joint venture. Early in his career he worked at Motorola™ and  Nice™ Systems Ltd. in a variety of engineering, operations, and general management positions. Erez holds a BSc in Computer Science from the Technion, Israel's Institute of Technology, and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

    AJ Long

    AJ Long
    Chief Financial Officer

    AJ Long joined Mitchell in 2009 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for the Finance, Accounting and Business Transformation functions. In his capacity as CFO, AJ works closely with the executive leadership team and Mitchell's Board of Directors to ensure alignment and achievement of the Company's financial, operational and strategic objectives.

    Prior to joining Mitchell, AJ held a number of executive leadership roles in the technology sector with companies such as Qualcomm Incorporated, Sprint Corporation, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Nextel Communications. Most recently AJ was Vice President and CFO at FLO TV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Inc. delivering content to mobile devices over a dedicated nationwide broadcast network. AJ was CFO of FLO TV from development stage through commercial launch.

    In addition to operational finance roles and responsibilities, AJ has an extensive capital markets background and as CFO and Treasurer has raised more the $15 billion for his companies in the debt and equity markets.

    Jack Farnan

    Jack Farnan
    Senior Vice President
    of Human Resources

    Jack Farnan is currently Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Mitchell International, where he manages the Human Resources, Payroll, Facilities and Physical Security functions.  Prior to joining Mitchell, he was Vice President of Human Resources at ComStream Corporation, a designer and manufacturer of satellite-based telecommunications systems for the international marketplace.  Before that he was Vice President of Human Resources at ORINCON, a research and development company specializing in digital signal processing, artificial intelligence and neural networks.

    Jack is also currently an instructor in the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Human Resources Leadership Program and is on the Human Resources Advisory Committee of the Board of San Diego's Public Library System. Jack received the "HR Professional of the Year" Award in San Diego in 2008 and he received the "Human Resources Lifetime Achievement Award" in 2009. He earned his Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Dayton and his Master's degree from Wright State University.
